The "one week" thing is not about trail bagging or bragging rights. It's about balancing selfish and family interests. My kids are only 2 and 4. I just can't justify spending much more than week away from them. I usually hike faster than the required pace anyway and am not one to lounge around camp.
Fast or slow, it doesnt matter. Those kinds of things are up to the individual. I like to hike all day. I like to cover ground. I think the week time idea is a good one. At least that way if you found an area you loved, you would have the time to plop down and enjoy it.
