After the nice 3000' in 3 miles climb of Saturday (see Mt Townsend 4-28 TR), the drizzle on Sunday made us decide to do a somewhat easier hike. We opted to check out Tull Canyon, as last summer it was packed with mosquitoes. Literally. bug.gif If all of the mosquitoes had landed on me at once and started to fly, I would have been lifted into the air. Poor Jeremy, he doesn't eat enough garlic embarassedlaugh.gif! It was misty and rainy all day, so here are a few pictures to highlight our brief outing:

up.gif up.gif I've been in that area a million times and never made the side trip to check out the wreckage.. Maybe next time. hmmm.gif

There's a mostly unspoken acknowledgment among the voluntarily impoverished that it's better to be fiscally poor yet rich in experience-living the dream-than to be traditionally wealthy but live separate from one's passions.

Well, the plan was to head to bed, but Jeremy was like, no "one more TR!" That area is kind of cool, but it is a lot better when you can see the valley instead of just a lot of mist. We're planning on doing a loop through there and out Silver Lakes later this summer, so we wanted to do our leisurely exploring now.

The rhodies don't bloom until much later...I made that mistake last spring.

Last year the rhodies were in full bloom by last week of June/first week of July. I am not sure if this year will be any sooner or not.

Yes, a B-17 like Phil said. We thought we saw what were the remains of a cabin, like was mentioned in that link. We kind of found it a little sad though, as people had dragged a couple of items from the wreckage to the few campsites scattered by the creek. For ambience, maybe? We felt they should have been left where they originally were.

Thank you for your trip report Schmidt Altitude. I've also been wanting to do the Tull Canyon - Silver Lakes loop. Did you make it a little further up the trail and see the old remains of Tull City? There are a few walls still standing from the cabins that used to be up there.

Pain is just weakness leaving the body.

No, it was pretty foggy so that deterred us from investigating any further than we did. We did see some remains of a couple cabins, but it was just a minute or two past the bomber. Those wouldn't be it, would they?

Yup, that's them. Not too much to them but I found it interesting to ponder what life must have been like for the miners living up there in that village.

What kind of dogs are those? Are they good hikers? My Yorkie is the best dog for hiking I 've ever had but since my Golden Retriever died, (she was good for 8 miles, my yorki for 22 so far). She needs a bigger dog for confidence..Since she was so busy showing Maggie who was in charge she was ok, but now we go alone she's scared of everyone....hence a barking nuisance.
