Pictures and Report
Headed out to see eclipse and climb Silver Peak last night and ended up doing neither but had a great time. In Seattle it hailed hard that day and there was a major storm around the Hwy 18 junction. A few sucker hokes opened near the trail head. Took the rerouted temp detour from the nature loop. By the time we got to the Old railroad Grade it was snowing hard. The snow made the trail somewhat easier. There was about 4" of new snow around Lake Annette and it looked like full winter conditions, outstanding . Some of our party went up the ridge toward the summit of Silver where it was a whiteout with horizontal snow and 20 degrees. One of our party schredded the slope. Made it back to the cars around 10 snowing all the way down to the trailhead. If you are going out this weekend be prepared. Trip required full rain gear and poles or axe.
