when is the best time to do this hike comming from salmon la sack (i dont mind the crowds)? when is the lake all melted and about how many days would a non rushing hike take? im thinking like one overnight??? thanks
Greetings photographerjim,
Its a nine mile easy hike with a handful of camps along the way. I did it around this time a few years ago and did not encounter any serious snow that I recall. I would recomend going as soon as possible to avoid the horse poo and catch the flowers. -Dave
thanks.... ya my friend is only open in lake june so maybe it would be a solo trip? i did a lil hike today up to talpus lake and olallie lake and the section to olallie lake was amost 90% snowed in about a foot deep on the trail and the whole lake was covered.... talpus was snow free and just a few sections on the trail up around the creek were covered in snow.... thanks again for the information....
I've done this hike a few times, including last year we went on July 4 doing the pollalie ridge loop, which I recommend. The trail to Waptus lake is best done early or late in the year due to horses and hoardes of mosquitoes. There are no views, another good reason to go on the ridge.
