Had an afternoon to burn this past weekend. I took a friend up to Mission Ridge, we parked in the lower parking lot (right by the cement barriers blocking off the rest of the parking lot) and right behind us was a little TH a friend from work had recommended. The trail was in good shape with only a few logs to climb over now and then. The hike up is great as about the last 3/4 of it you can hear the creek/falls running down the hillside and it just builds the anticipation. It took us about 45 minutes to an hour to get to the top and what a great reward. Matt commented that it was the clearest water he'd ever seen. It was a cute little lake and while exploring our way around it we found a couple firepits and talked of maybe doing an overnighter for fun in the future. The trail goes on up further and there's another lake on the map, but we were short on time that day so we wolfed down our pb sandwiches, dipped our feet in the water, and headed down. We'll have to check out what's further on up another day.
Boontito,
If you go up to Marion at just the right time there are tons of bitteroot blooming on the hills around it. Just make sure to take good bug repellant as that swampy area just as you crest the hill breeds lots of mosquitoes.
