Temperatures predicted for 90 degrees so we headed for the snow on Friday. We decided to do Mt. Dickerman as this week’s conditioning hike. The drive up Mt Loop Hwy was cool and shady. We pulled into the parking lot around 9am. There were two other cars. The trail is starts switch-backing right off. The air was already warm but the sun had not yet broken through the trees. The lower trail had lots of new growth of ferns. The trees thinned and the nice bunches of trilliums started appearing along the trail. We met the first party returning when we crossed the stream. The water made a nice fall coming down from above. Shortly after crossing the stream, the snow began. Just follow the footprints from the previous groups which pretty much follow the trail to the top. The last 1/3- ¼ of the way is still in snow. But the trail is already appearing at few spots. Two other groups passed us on the way down. We reached the top and had a 360 view. Time for lunch and a rest. There area a couple of rocky areas exposed which make a nice lunch spot. One saw on other party summit but there is a lot of room around the top so we had our rock to ourselves. The hike down was slushy but quick. The lower trail was hot even in the shade. By time we returned to the car, the ‘mule’ was dry and we had drunk about 3 additional liters. Even in the heat, it was a great day and a great hike. - marta

On the way down
