also, in addition to galvanized metal, don't attempt to use old refrigerator grills. most are cadmium-plated, and give off poisonous fumes when heated.. my brother uses wire cake cooling racks. cheap to replace when they rust out and lightweight.

Ahem.... money IS very much an object! Cake cooling racks are way too small and can't stand up on their own. I'm talking about a CAR-camping grill, mind you.

You know what's really cheap? The grill that's sitting on your BBQ right now. That's what I take for cooking over an open fire whilst car camping. up.gif Actually not your grill per se, but my grill, as in the one in my BBQ.

What is with bringing Jiffy Pop on hikes? Does someone have to pack in a VCR too? Maybe a bucket of chicken? Jiffy Pop is not engineering, it is art. And if it is not art, then it is something of even greater mysteriosity. Leave it there everyone. Don't delve.

WrongBridge, I know what it is and I don't know what it is if you know what I mean. Even if I knew I couldn't tell you as I would be tied to confidentiality.

Sorry WrongBridge, since I have adopted the Ray Way, I no longer can carry Kentucky Fried because 11 herbs and spices is about 9 too heavy. What was the Colonel thinking? Also bones are useless additional weight. Teriyaki! Yes! That's it!

The fact that Jiffy Pop so often turns into jiffy poop is what makes it so sweet when it does work! biggrin.gif If every yahoo who comes down the pike could make it, where would the adventure be? confused.gif How would you get that feeling of total victory from "Easy Pop"? huh.gif I say, "Death to the evil ones who repackage Jiffy Pop!" bricks.gif

trouble is, most of the inexpensive grills with folding legs are not very stable.. if you know someone who welds, they could probably make you an unbreakable car-camping grill. steel is cheap...

Well, Marylou, repackaging other things is ok since the packaging is not an integral feature as it is with the J.P. If you are going to ruin perfectly good J.P., then just use regular popping corn to begin with. Some things are just too important to mess with!
