I've always been a fan of the armchair adventure and when I ran across a few brief quotes from 1930's British mountaineer, H. W. Tilman, I had to find more material. Perhaps I'd call him the Mark Twain of mountaineering, but it's probably just his British wit that I find fascinating. I highly recommend his "The Ascent of Nanda Devi" which is included in a book published by the Mountaineers titled "Nada Devi, Exploration and Ascent." Woe was the day the tea supply slid down the mountain and out of sight.
That led me to another book, a parody of Tilman's titled, "The Ascent of Rum Doodle." Pretty funny stuff there too. Too bad the Monty Python crew didn't do other people's material.

Speaking of armchair adventures & Monty Python, I've enjoyed Michael Palin's different traveling exploits over the years, like "Around the World in Eighty Days", "Full Circle, etc. He seems like such a delightful fellow, very laid back and with that Pythonesque wit of course.
