I expected to find snow and lots of mountain flowers. This is an annual late July hike for me and the flowers this year Just could not take the recent hot dry weather. Only two patches of snow near the pass, very dry. The black flies are out in force. Reuben

I was thinking about going there this weekend. How was the trip? Any tips on what sidetrips to do? Any backcountry passes required at this location? Are there good spots to pitch the tent at? How exposed is the trail (to sun that is)?

Despair is only for those who see the end beyond all doubt.

The 5 mile trail to Ingalls is mostly in the open with sparse forest at the beginning. Bring sunburn lotion. I don't think camping is allowed at the lake, but once you cross the ridge there is a meadow you can drop to where camping is allowed. I climbed the rock behind Ingalls to a saddle between 2 peaks. Great views of the valley on the west side and over to Mt. Daniel.
