Took a quick backpacking trip to Spider Meadows last weekend (we just got a new dog and wanted to take her on an easy overnight trip). Trail is in great shape and there was a WTA crew doing even more work. Leroy Creek crossing is trivial and there were no snow patches. Camped over in the lower meadows horse section but there weren't any horses (although trail has plenty of evidence). Unfortunately the dog was very excited the whole time - would only sleep for 5 minutes at a time to make sure our camp site was secure - so we didn't do any exploring. This is too bad, because this is a lovely place (whole area actually incl Leroy Basin, Carne, etc). If you go, it's worthwhile to at least go to the upper basin - great flower shows.
Bugs were out there, but not completely irritating so they'll probably be getting worse...
