Does anyone know of a good route up to Crawford Lake off of the Middle Fork Snoqualmie? I am thinking of going up there this Sunday, and would appreciate any suggestions. THX - KN

What's the deal with this lake (this is not directed specifically at H. Hound)? Seems like every year there's someone asking about how to get there. Its got kinda a cool shape I guess, in sorta a cool area, but so are about 2000 other lakes in the Cascades. What do people think they know about it that's making it so attractive? I'm curious more than anything. Was in there last year and didn't find it all that unique. ALL the Goldens were fished out years ago! eek.gif

I will answer your question via PM. It has become politically incorrect on this here board to give directions to any lake OTHER than Green Lake! winksmile.gif winksmile.gif winksmile.gif winksmile.gif winksmile.gif winksmile.gif TB

Randy, it is an old fisherman's trick to lure others to places that are already fished out so they can have the best places to themselves...yep, hook, line, and sinker lol.gif "They're jumpin' at Craword."

Don't bother with the PM. I've been there and am trying to figure out what the percieved attraction is. What's circulating about this lake that makes it a hot one? I've seen enough requests on it that it makes it seem like more than people seeing it on a map and saying "OOo! I wanna go there!" Since Allison has been to Sylvester (aka freakin' everywhere) maybe she can tell us! moon.gif lol.gif

No big deal, I just haven't been there yet. I hit Hardscrabble last week, Williams, and Chain Lks a couple of weeks ago, and want to see the rest of the area before 6 miles are tacked on to the trip. I am fairly sure there is some kind of path to the lake. I just figured to try to save time and effort thrashing through the brush. Either way I will be making the trip BPJ - Would you PM me a rout description? I promise not to post it anywhere. KN

Good enough answer. You don't want to go the way I went...or maybe you do. eek.gif We came in from the north, past Delta then over the high point between Otter and Angeline, down and up to "Iron Cap Lake", up to Iron Cap Mountain, then traversed the ridge on over. Note that our objectvive was not Crawford. I think there's a trip report on this trip on this board somewhere and one by Mike Collins over at WTA. Search for "Iron Cap"

count on it. the southern exposure and the heat have doubtless cleared it out.

I've been to Crawford. We climbed in off-trail (through brush up talus) from the Middle Fork. We looked for a path down briefly at the lake. IIRC there were some faint paths--probably animal trails--but we went out the same way we came in. The lake was OK--like hundreds of others in the ALW.

Sorry I didn't get you that description Houder. It is a beautiful lake. Did you go swimming in any of the numerous ponds that exist around the lake? TB
