Back in May of 2003 I went up the Imnaha River from Indian Crossing, but only as far as the Blue Hole. The only thing of note for that stretch was a major burn that the trail goes through along with the usual downed trees and widowmakers following a fire. We saw a bunch of elk hanging out there as well!
Hiking through the burn area between Indian Crossing and the Blue Hole
But its a pretty easy hike, the only steep is the end cirque where you actually climb up to Hawkins pass and drop down in to Upper Frasier Lake. In the decades since I've hiked it I guess the bottom end hear Indian Crossing was severely burned by a forest fire, which is a bit dissapointing..
I'm hoping to get back there some day and explore the area around "Honeymoon Basin", which from the photos I've seen (and the distant view from the summit of Eagle Cap) looks like the moon:
(area near Cusisk and Imhana mountains)
North Imnaha
Seems like a good place to avoid the massive horse parties that plague the Wallowa/Hurricane/Imnaha/Lostine valleys and the Lake Basin.
I'd also like to go up the Imnaha and explore the South Fork of the Middle Fork of the Imnaha.
