Once again the North Cascade highway remains closed due to "potential" avalanches taking out a car. Understandable. But the section that is "potential" is from the Cuttroat Lake road to Washington Pass.
Why don't they just put up a gate at Washington Pass and say "Road Closed" from there on the westside instead of all the way down at Ross Lake dam?
Why not?????!!!!!!
Your idea seems reasonable, but not sure how they'd "gate" the road at Wash Pass sufficiently enough to keep the 42" tire people out.
I love to get up and over the N Cascades Hway as soon as it opens. Even if it's just a drive. So what would you be after if you could get there this weekend?
For me it would be photos of the snowy mountains from the road, particuarly of Liberty Bell if I could get up there. I have yet to get a decent photo on Liberty Bell or the rest of the Early Winter Spires (what a cool name), and the snow in the creases and its shape really gives it a distinctive look. The weather this weekend wouldn't allow that anyway even if I could get up there.
Stefan, I don't have to tell you how unconcerned they are about providing access to "we the people". Understand your frustration as it is May 2.
mcaver, if you get up there this spring, stoll up the valley (in snow) from the hairpin turn in HWY 20 for a different view the Bell and EWS, Kangaroo Ridge, etc. You won't regret it.
Hey, where's that gate? Ive got 42" tall tires!!
HA. I love highway 20. I usually make 4-6 trips a years around the loop. Half west to east, half east to west. I think I like going east to west best. Always stop by the Mazama general store for lunch too. We should make a convoy run sometime. I usually leave at 6am and get home around 5-6 pm.
