I love this thread. I've never grasped why anyone would be interested in shutting down a thread people obviously enjoy simply because they don't have an appreciation for idle silliness. So it exists on the board...so what? So it's 700 pages of goofball antics...so what? It's a bunch of bits on some hard drive somewhere, and we can make more bits.

If you dug a hole in the ground where you are, would you really end up in China? Find out, but be careful, if you start digging you might need a snorkel: http://www.antipodr.com/

I've been watching no fewer than three Western Scrub Jays chowing on sunflower seeds out back all afternoon. Amazing how much food they can put away.

I got one of those fake IRS calls this morning. I got one yesterday morning also at like at 5:00 in the morning. It always scares me getting a call that early in the morning.

"Good morning. This is the IRS calling. We need to conduct an audit of your past tax returns. We need to start that today." Yeah, I'd be scared too. Especially at 5 am. I myself have a solution for that. I run some software on the computer that turns it into a high end telephone answering machine. Uses caller id. Incoming call says "TOLL FREE". Run "hangup" profile. Takes it off hook, puts it back. Click click. A friend calls, they get the "Hello, Welcome to the mental health hotline" spiel for 48 seconds. I've got a collection of recorded telephone message off the Internet. Includes "this number has been disconnected" in Mongolian.

St. Francis manuscripts restored for U.S. display
Quote:
Leaving Italy for the first time in 700 years, the documents will be shown at the United Nations headquarters Nov. 17-28, and then be open to the public in Brooklyn Borough Hall until mid-January in an exhibition, “Friar Francis: Traces, Words and Images.” The signature of the saint of the poor and neglected, who inspired Pope Francis to choose his name, is nowhere to be seen. Historians agree that he most likely dictated his writings, but certainly his hand touched the papal bulls that in the 1220s registered the pope’s messages to the order. However, these 19 artifacts are the most ancient documents of St. Francis’ life and theological tradition.
