I see they would through many factors to deem an overall good activity.
Maybe I missed it, but what about swimming?
I think the most cardiovascular sport out there that burns the most calories is motorcycle racing. When you look at the " world champions" they are usually late teenagers or very early twenties.
Stefan, swimming is in there.
Believe it or not competitive badminton (its an Olympic sport) will get you into shape in a hurry. Glad to see basketball is in there though I personally worry about achilles injury - that seems to be a leading after age 40 injury. Horse-racing jockeys are supposed to be pound for pound the best athletes in the world- and ballet dancers too. Baryishnakov (?) had an amazing vertical jump- world class. Swimming is good overall exercise but that fact that you are somewhat buoyant hurts developing muscle strength due to the lack of weight-baring on them. Plus most people get bored REAL fast sticking with swimming laps enough to do them any good- I know I do!
