Here's the problem. Let's say you run out of memory. You go thru the images on card 1 and clear off the obvious non-keepers, then do the same for cards 2, 3, and 4. Let's say you freed up 64 MB on each of the 4 256 MB cards. Now you're basically stuck with four 64 MB cards instead of one 256 MB card, and you're going to be shuffling those cards more frequently as they fill up. In short, it becomes a vicious cycle as you run out of space, not to mention it becomes a real pain in the keester to remember which cards have free space and how much. Having one big card is *really* nice because it avoids these headaches. The only potential downside of 1 big card is having all your eggs in one basket and the card gets corrupted (something I've never had happen in 4 years of shooting).
