Larry and Kerry and whoever else has been up there recently, what do you think the larches in the North Cascades Highway area will be like this weekend (October 18 and 19), two weeks after you saw it?
Is it too late?
I wouldn't go SPECIFICALLY for the larches up there now. I'm sure the wind and snow has stripped a lot of them. However...if you are going to be in the area no matter what, then I would stop at the Rainy Pass trailhead and hike to Lake Ann. Don't take the high trail up to Heather Pass. Opt instead to take the trail to Lake Ann's shore (the low trail up the drainage and follow the level drainage to the Lake Ann shore). I would think the large larches in there would still be pretty robust. Nice, nice area too.
