Would this be too cruel of a joke to play on someone at the trailhead?

No, go for it, it is hilarious, see if you can combine it with someone's trip to Janus Lake

Dante ALREADY had that idea! (Bullet holes)
Here's one for you. Go hiking in a real populated area. Bring night vision goggles with you. At around 2am go out and steal everybodys boots!
Could you imaging loosing your boots and realizing that you're in the upper enchantments?!?!?!
Now that's a bummer of a joke.

Hear tell that someone once took a shot to hell stop sign from out in the desert and switched it with the one next to the Officers Club, not funny at all

It would be cruel, but funny. I'd s**t my pants if it was my car--even if it was just a beater--but eventually I'd laugh.
I wonder if it would work to prevent breakins and/or enhance solitude (with those on you car, other hikers might choose a different trailhead )

Whoa...Don Zimmer of the Yankees could get one of those magnetic bird dropping thingies and attach it to his head for some levity at the game today!
A fuxk, why do I not give one?

Personally, I'd die of a heart attack if I saw bullet holes on my truck. My hubby is an auto tech. He had someone come into the shop last week with these fake bullet holes on them. It sounded pretty funny to me, then I thought, geez, when I worked at one of the law offices in downtown Tacoma, I saw them all the time, however they were REAL!

I had a veterinarian friend of mine from Spokane that had put them down the side of his truck as a joke. Several of his customers were concerned about the sight of this so he finally removed them as it was more of a pain in the to explain them. I like the trailhead idea for Janus though. Now that would be funny

Probably peel right off along with the paint! Pretty expensive joke!

If they peel off the paint, you needed to repaint your car anyway.

They are not sticky enough to peel paint nor are they realistic. I put them on my jeep once and they looked like a bird took a crap. I promptly removed them with no loss of paint.

Florida,
I think "promptly" is the key.
