EDIT: the ignore topic feature has been removed as it was slowing things down too much.
Tired of the same ol' dead horse topic(s) rising to the top?  Want to make them go away?  The bad news is you'll have to click on the topic one more time. The good news is that when you click on the "Ignore" link at the bottom left it will cause the topic to bubble down to the end of the forum list and prevent it from appearing in the active topics list when you are logged in. If you change your mind, you can always go to the last page of the forum, pull up the topic, and click on the "stop ignoring this topic" link.
We've enhanced the active topics feature as well. When you click on any of the active topic drop down links to the top right it will show (at a minimum) all the new topics since your last visit. In other words, if you're gone for more than a day, clicking on the 1 day link will show you a minimum of a day, plus any other activity since your last visit.

EDIT: You can now ignore a particular user by clicking on the 
icon at the bottom of one of their posts. An option to "stop ignoring" them will be displayed in the future instead of their posts.
BTW, the random avatars now also display randomly within a page of posts.
