I'm glad I got there last weekend because given the forecasted drop in temperatures I imagine it will be freezing over hard sometime by the weekend-this is often pretty cool, though, because if you can see through the ice-no snow on top-you can see fish swimming underneath the ice. It ca be little frustrating if you were counting a tasty meal of brookies.
But that was not a problem last weekend-the fish are spawning so they're pretty well schooled up and easy to find with a little hunting. It was also the first week of the modern rifle elk season and the hunters were out there, but there wasn't much shooting. Lots of elk sign but they're moving a lot at night to feed then bedding down in thick timber by day, making them almost impossible to get at. This is pretty good larch country, too, but they'e rapidly loosing their leaves and with the big blow we're anticipating-might be the end of that, too.
