We went on a nice getaway to Levenworth this weekend. Saturday we headed up Icicle Creek for a day hike. The enchantments area looked crowded so we started up Fourth of July Creek trail as there were no cars in lot. There were tracks for about two miles in. The trail passes through a large burn from 1994. There was a little ice on he bottom which soon grew to a couple inches of snow. The snow softened the destruction of the fire and added a stark beauty. The trail is continuous up, up, and up. No rattlers at the watering hole but the snow was now four inches deep. There were high clouds at the start but patches of blue broke through and vistas of Mt. Cashmier and the Enchantment area appeared. A smoky haze filled the valley. There was close to a foot of snow at the top and it would have been fun to ski but not to schlep the skies up. Two other parties had followed our tracks but only got about halfway up. Afterward we had a nice German dinner at Mozart Cafe.

Great light on #3. Thanks for the pictures and trip report.
Just wondering, what is everyone currently using for traction on the shallow snow and ice? Plain boots? Light crampons? Snowshoes?
