We tried to do Mount Pilchuck on Saturday but we barely made it to the trailhead because of the three foot deep wet snow. There had been no one up the trail since the last snow. Since we didn't have snowshoes so we scratched that idea. Coming down the mountain we came to a guy that had slid off the road into a snowfilled ditch and was trying to dig himself out with an ice axe. So I pulled him out with the awesome power of my four cylinder toyota.
We decided to hit Heather lake on the way out. The trail was clear to about halfway then it was snow the rest of the way. The lake was almost frozen over but that was about all you could see because of the clouds.
It was a good trip up Heather lake overall because we only passed four other groups on the trail. If you plan on going don't venture to far away from the lake on the south side we could hear avalanches coming down every five minutes.
