Finally got around to organizing my pics for this trip so I figure I might as post a TR. Not much more to say about this place than hasn't been said other than I would recommend doing it on a weekday to avoid the crowds. The lookout gets a lot of overnight use so don't be expecting mountain fresh air if you lay down on the rocks. It's a long trek but can be done in a day with an early start. 4+ hours each way.

I was thinking about our recent discussion as to the "view reputation" of Three Fingers. I have always felt that areas south of, say Dome or Glacier Peak, where there are far less glaciers, offer their best summit views earlier in the summer, when snow adds depth and contrast to the scene. Pilchuck is a good example: Spetacular view in January, but a little boring in Sept. Unless I am going to a known fall color location, I try to go north where there are big views with glaciers, as much as possible from Aug on.
Nice pics as usual.

Tom, did you need to use any climbing gear to reach the lookout?

We did it late in the summer in a low snow year so the route was virtually snow-free. However, in a normal snow year you would want to bring ice axe and crampons. I remember one section where the adrenaline would been pumping if it were icy or snow covered, but there are ropes to hang on to.
Papster, yep I was expecting more snow up top. In fact I didn't realize I was looking at the barren backside of Whitehorse in this shot until I was organizing my pics.

Thanks I never attempted it because I was under the impression I needed ropes and harnesses to make it to the top.

Another mountain that doesn't look like itself from another view is Clark Mtn. Attached is Clark from Little Giant Pass. I wish I had photos of Clarks' bare behind (I hope someone else can post one maybe?), but imagine a baby bunnyhead's ears pointed in slightly different directions. THis is a stupid post 'cause I only have the one photo.

How about a late September view of the south side of Clark from Mt. David?
Of course, the north side from High Pass is nice as well...
Clark Mt. is in the middle. Clark From High Pass.

Jimk, the "Clark is in the middle" is the view I'm talking about. But I've never seen it close up. I'd like to do the Cloudy Pass/Boulder/Helmut Butte trip someday, but so far I have seen Clark up close and personal as in the Li'l Giant Pass view and from far away, as in Johnson Mtn. From farther away (further?), it seems more barren and the rabbit-ears are more prominent. Thanks for the photo of Clark from Mt David.
