The first for both us for backpacking on the coast and for the season we
set out after a picnic lunch at the Ozette parking lot. Lot of dayhikers this
weekend enjoying the boardwalk and the sunny weather. Stopped for
a rest and some grub at the Cape and watched a group of deer munch
leaves in the same spot then continued down to the first privy. The Cape
camping looked a bit crowded so we continued on past the ranger station.
High tide met us so the overland ropes were put to good use on the way
to the river mouth. Campground was deserted except for a dayhiker we yelled at on the north side of the river. Driftwood is pretty low in supply
on the southside so we kept the fire big enough for smores and cocoa.
Incredible spot and it was surprising to see only three others between Ozette
and the Makah Ozetter ranger cabin. Only visitor was a sea otter surfing the river late evening. Cannot wait get back !
Early morning The other side. Wavy grass
