Dicentra, Rainrunner, me and Zoe the pooch headed up to do Townsend today. We started from the lower trailhead for more miles. I had only been on the upper trail-and Sink Lake is a cutie! The shelter is in great shape there. It was very cloudy as we got higher, and by the time we hit treeline at around 4500ft, we started having the clouds rolling in on us - and a smattering of ice pellets. We hit snow around 4800 ft or so. It wasn't too bad persay, but Zoe wasn't having a good time (it was her first time on snow). We bailed at maybe 5100 ft, right below the junction for Camp Windy. We headed down to a nice tree and had lunch under it, as we were whited out. A nummy repast of chicken curry salad, flat bread, strawberries, veggies and dip, and cookies. Yumm!! As we were packing up, we encountered Ridgescrambler coming up. She had decided to come up on the hike, and hoped to run into us smile.gif She is an awesome lady! Rained all the way down, but it was ever so pretty. 2 small trees down, trail is in great shape though. Had a terrific dinner at Logger Place in Quilcene-an awesome waitress!!

I was on the summit of Townsend yesterday with my dog. There were some breaks to the West in the fog/sleet. Besides myself there was one other solo person up there that appeared out of the mist. Turned out to be a gal that I had climbed with in the past many years ago.

Did you park at the upper TH? We only saw 2 guys leaving when we showed up at the lower TH, and passed coming down a couple, Ridge, and a group of 3 guys headed for the lakes. We did see 2 vehicles in the upper TH when we crossed it in the morning. So were you one of teh early ones? It was very quiet in the clouds smile.gif Though we heard marmots and the waterfalls-just gorgeous!

Don't know if we crossed paths. Saw no one going up except later at the top. Passed two people with a dog who were going up when coming down. When they saw my dog, they made the comment that their dog wasn't dog friendly. We were the two vehicles parked in the upper lot.
