Went for a leisurely, late-start hike Sunday up the Mt. Loop. Big 4. Trailhead parking area is still closed, but the picnic area is open. No snow on the trail but there are several avalanche warning signs in the glacier basin. (Didn't keep some moron for letting his kids play on the glacier, screaming and sliding down it. Never mind the eerie creaking underneath the ice. Fool!) The hike is still beautiful, albeit short. And since when is the entire trail gravelled? I don't remember as a kid it being so built up. Oh well. Ashland Lakes (and Beaver Lake.) Small patches of snow here and there. The trail wasn't too marshy and the logs and boards meant to protect hikers from the mucky, wet soil were actually very slick and we each slipped and nearly fell a few times. The trail was very quiet, very few birds singing. We saw two ducks on Beaver Lake and a large hawk. Very very quiet.
