Ok, here's my drying tip for the year: Frozen hashbrowns. up.gif And my non-tip: beef jerky. hurl.gif Jenjen was right on that one. What do you like to dry?

Well, I'm glad its not just me... Spaghetti sauce dries just like any fruit leather and rehydrates really well. I haven't tried the ground beef yet. I just cooked up some bulk sausage, I think I'll try that.

I dry applesauce into fruit leather, then put it into the blender. I bag it into 1/4 cup servings for Ford (using the FoodVac sealer). Just add 1/4 cup cold water and instant applesauce. I also dry all my fruit and am getting into drying all my leftovers from dinner. Usually I seal it in the mini bags with said FoodVac-and if it contains anything questionable I put them in the freezer for storage. (all leftovers one get put there.)

Nope. just throw them in there. I did patties, but non-patties would work too.

i find it to be a lot less hassle to buy hash browns that are already dehydrated.... united grocers/smart & final has idahoan resturant-grade hashbrowns in a gallon-size milk carton for about $5, they rehydrate quickly and don't taste like the ones you get at the supermarket.

One of the non-essential-but-nice-to-have things I dehydrate is lemon and orange slices. They're really nice in tea and water bottles. Marylou, how did the sweetened grapefruit turn out?

I didn't like the sweetened grapefruit. I think I'll give them to Quark and act like I made them for her special-like. Maybe she will forget she just tol' me how to make them the other week. Sauteed a couple of chicken sausages up, and rinsed/drained and dried them. That came out good, will work for biskits and gravy, or gravy over rice.

I often do sauces on fruit rollup trays. I have done hamburger meat a fair amount. Recently, I have been dehydrating leftover taco meat (cooked ground beef mixed with those taco sauce packages). It goes really well with some veg in one of those Lipton 4 cheese dishes. Before the last trip, I tried dehydrating sliced strawberries. They worked out really well. They are good to eat dehyrated or you can rehydrate them to go in one of those Enertia Foods cheesecake desserts or similar.

pineapple is also a very good thing to dehydrate, fresh or canned.

Marylou/JenJen
Why did beef jerky turn out badly? I am planning on getting a dehydrator mainly to make jerky, since the stuff you buy in the store is so nasty.

Greasy. I thought I trimmed every bit of fat off of the beef I dried, but it was not enough. Quark makes a very nice Turkey Jerky though.
