Yesterday I drove up road 41 south of Sunset Falls on the Lewis River to one of the 4 trails which can take you near Silver Star's summit. Hiked trail 172 about 13 miles round trip. This trail had several large patches of snow to cross, and about 1/4 mile of continuous snow through the trees before the trail junction near the summit. I ventured through this snow to the junction but others I was with valued their safety a little more than I did, and didn't want to continue on. I eventually summited by scrambling up a few hundred feet of rockslides and heather and making a few basic rock moves to clear a cliff band just before the summit overhang, this was from the east. Fairly cloudy day, but good temperatures for hiking.

Silver Star is the highest point between the Columbia River Gorge and Mt. St. Helens.

This big odd-shaped rock structure is Clark County's highpoint.

I love that hike. I think I usually go a different way though. Have you hiked up to Sturgeon Rock before? It is a good spot for lunch.
