THough not quite on the level of the Mt David destination crapper, the potty at Peggys Pond rates honerable mention. It is on a meadowy knoll with a view out over Hyas Lake toward Granite Mountain. One of the nicest outhouses I've ever experienced was the one set up by the Green Tortoise tour company at their beach in Baja. It was constructed of solar screening that gave privacy, yet let the breeze blow through and plenty of light to shine in. Not the usual spider infested black hole like most outhouses. They even provide a bucket of ashes to "flush" after use. Not a trace of odor in there--one could linger in there for hours, it was so pleasant.

The one atop Mt Whitney definitely has a view, but I wasn't going to actually sit on it just to say I did wink.gif

A dirty dilemma at Lake Roosevelt camp sites
Quote:
Campers' toilet habits at Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area have prompted some National Park Service officials to consider requiring permits or registrations to help control the smelly and unsanitary problem.

A fuxk, why do I not give one?

Ick. Don't think I'll be hanging out there (Lake Roosevelt) anytime soon. Ick! Double Ick.

It's not any different at dozens of other lakes and recreation areas in E.WA it's disgusting. Do people think someone's going to come behind them and pick up there #$%^ and toilet paper for them! How tough is it to take a shovel and bury it, so the next person doesn't have to see a mess. Lk Rooselvelt has some excellent floating bathrooms for the boaters, so there are options available.

Ha, funny thread. The Sahale Glacier toilet is freaking amazing, not sure if someone said that one already.

Burying would be better than behind the nearest sagebrush, but it with the amount of use that area gets, even that option... um, er, stinks. From the article:
Quote:
Shoreline campers are required to carry a portable toilet, but many opt instead to use the sand for their bathroom, Bird said. This saves them the trouble of cleaning their toilet, but leaves behind a stinking mess for the next camper, not to mention a public health threat.

Hopefully the trip through the tulips will divert some money to a solution and not shut down more access. Charge a $2-3 enviromental charge on that lake for boaters and use that money for education and enforcement. You go any where in E.WA after Memorial Day or 4th of July and it's a disaster. It is a stinky problem that's not going away.

Unless I am mistaken, that one doesn't exist anymore. It went byebye when the owners of the land decided they were tired of people trashing the place/worried about liability/etc and tore down all the amenities. AFAIK, it's now just a hotseep, and has no-trespassing signs on the land. Which kinda sucks. It was a beautiful place, and was always in good condition the few times I made it there. One of my favorite (weird) Washington experiences was there... sitting in the 2nd hottest "pool", looking up to see a naked Austrailian guy playing the bagpipes as the sun went down. Heh. --Gray

I don't remember those two up that high like that last year. I only remember the three that were a bit lower. One of the guys in our party was sitting down and started sliding down the slope a little bit. Shouldn't have left his ice ax back at camp.

Touron is a nougat of Arabic origin made with almonds and honey or sugar, without which it would just not be Christmas in Spain.
