We already have an agency that are experts at collecting fees. It is called the IRS. I can pay them from the convenience of my home. Why create a different tax collecting bureaucracy for every iota-ization of life? Are we going to end up with a country where every place one sets there foot requires some kind of a fee or toll? What is Wilderness all about anyhow?

The problem isn't that there isn't enough tax money. The problem is that Congress isn't allocating enough of what is there to the Forest Service. It is unlikely a tax raise for the Forest Service will be approved any time soon. The Forest Service has had to figure out how to get funding on their own. The Trail Park Pass was what they came up with.

The original plan was created by the FS. The new plan is created by Congress. Can I really trust a plan created by a congress that was apathetic enough to let the FS starve to death in the first place?

Well, I dont mind paying the pass. I dont mind paying at the campgrounds, but FS has there heads so far up there arse, that you cant expect nothing much to come out of em. If someone actually went through them, and got rid of all the garbage and poweder puff crap it wouldnt be so bad.

I wasn't trying to set you up; I was just curious about what you've observed re: USFS $. I think a lot of resources evaporate in the process of processing the decisionmaking process that we, the public, have demanded.

They used to have another program that was quite successful at generating funding for recreation. Can anybody guess what that was?

Oosik, I look forward to you tackling the outrageous insult of parking meters on public streets that WE own. ALL over the city!
