I'm thinking about getting a new scanner. Anyone have recommendations or words of advice. Something that is not too expensive but still has great quality suuure.gif and maybe has a slide adapter.

Polar: I have the Epson 2450, which cost about $300 three years ago. I got it in order to scan my medium format slides. Well...it's not been that great for those larger slides...for some reason the focus has never been right. But I found that it was GREAT for 35mm slides...

Thanks for the info Larry. That looks like a nice scanner. Does it have sharpness correction for when you don't use a tripod? wink.gif

I'm using a OneTouch that I got a couple of years ago for about $50 (after rebate) and it's a real POS as you can see based on any of the pictures I've posted on this site, but it's functional and suits it's purpose for copying documents, etc. I would go with an HP like I should have bought to begin with doh.gif

Same here. We probably both bought the same cheapola one at Comp USA for $75 with the $25 rebate. But now I'm getting tired of the graininess and the fact that it doesn't do slides that well. Maybe some fool, er I mean person would like to buy it from me for $25? biggrin.gif

Is OneTouch the brand? Mine's a Umax Astra 3450. As a cheap scanner it's ok. It would be great for simple documents and stuff, just not good for Rembrandts, Picassos, and Van Goghs...and polarbears.

"Visioneer" was the brand, but I bet it's the same OEM, different name.

My $0.02: Buy an El Cheapo flatbed and a film scanner. You don't have to spend a lot to get a decent one. An LS4000 would be nice but something in the 2400-2700dpi range is perfectly adequate and cheap. e.g. you can pick up an HP PhotoSmart S20 for $150 or so.

Take a look at this Canon flatbed scanner. It should be better than the Epson 2450 and its refinements. It does photos, documents, transparencies and negatives up to large-format 4 x 5 inch. at 4800 x 9600 dpi color resolution (max.) and 48-bit color depth. http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=120&modelid=10446
