This one starts at the Eightmile Lake trailhead, elevation 3300'. Also along for this hike were Beave and Mike Collins.
We left the car right at 8 AM and started down the trail on a steady pace. A couple easy stream crossings and a gentle grade bring one to Little Eightmile Lake and the turn off for Lake Caroline and the remainder of the route for Cashmere. The trail is free of snow all the way to Lake Caroline and Little Caroline. Both lakes were 100% thawed.
We followed the trail from Little Caroline up towards Windy Pass to 6750' where we headed NE off trail towards the 8000' saddle just west of Cashmere. The going is easy on grassy terrain, just a few snow patches remained below the saddle. From the saddle we gained 200' or so then initiated a traverse of Cashmere's north side. The traverse is straight forward through class 2 and some class 3 rock if you take the route I did, others in our party may have found an easier way. The easiest way to gain the summit is to traverse to the north ridge (or close to it) then scramble right on up. The summit is small, room enough for one or two people and the register.
After 45 minutes on top we descended the same route we used on the way up. The stats for the day were 8 hours car to car, something around 17 miles and something like 5700' of elevation gain.
