Ldyblade and I took a new backpacker, Karla to the Elwha this weekend for a 3 day or so trip. Ldyblade had decided to have her birthday on Sunday instead of today. Sounded good to me.
We spent a loud night in the campground near the entrance, near a group that partied till after 4 am. We left after dawn on Saturday.
The trail to Elkhorn is in great shape. All bridges are in, all are in great shape. The trail itself is also in great shape, with only one blowdown left to cut and it was a step over. The Lillian and the Elwha Rivers are very high and moving very fast.
We saw few people, and had temps in the high 70's and low 80's. We did encounter a couple that had attempted the Low Divide and finally turned around when they hit snow that was still a couple feet deep. That was at LD though. Not that I would have wanted to ford the Elwha right now!

Birthday cake for Ldyblade on Sunday, we spent it at Lillian River:
I baked it for her using my Ul Fauxbaker I created to use in my MSR Titan Ti Kettle.

We came out on Monday and as we came to the last mile or so the rain started slowly. Nice way to end a good trip!
