The trailhead is maybe half a mile beyond exit 38; I get the idea there's a second launching point, but I'm not sure where. I've heard the trail described as less than a mile, while it wound up being more like two and a half. For a while you hike above the freeway, but pretty close to it, and the roar of the cars is loud. But it heads into the forest, and pretty soon the noise is drowned out. There are a few switchbacks, but the terrain is pretty varied, and it's a beautiful hike.
Upper Twin Falls
The last one really isn't very good as a photo, but still, it's interesting the way there's just this one patch of sky.
There's a trailhead off Exit 34, too, on 159th. It's pretty well signed. Approaching from the west it's much more crowded and the trail stays closer to the river for a while. I've always liked the lower section to the falls better than the upper.
Interesting ... how long is the hike for that one? My book says exit 38 and 2.6 miles, but somewhere on the prestigious internet, I read it was about a mile's hike.
I think it's about 3.4 miles from the parking lot to the bridge over the falls round trip. Maybe 500 feet of gain round trip?
If you go that way go EARLY or be prepared to drown in people. I wandered up that way on Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend with my father-in-law (he's training for Mt. Si ) and there were two of those massive tour buses parked in the lot.
