Ventured out to the Denny Creek area to attempt to make it up to Melakwa Lake. It was a beautiful day, and we had the trail to ourselves much of the way up. There was still quite a bit of snow on the second half of the trail, so we had to do some route-finding up the valley, and had some fun with our ice-axes on some of the steeper snow-covered portions. Unfortunately, we didn't make it to the lake, but did make it to Hemlock Pass. I think with appropriate time and navigating, the lake is definitely attainable. The highlights were definitely the views and the beauty of the valley with the combo of trees, sunshine and snow. I also loved the accompaniment of the sound of running water throughout the entire hike. It was lovely! That also meant that the snow was melting fast and furious, and some of the snow "bridges" over creeks/meltwater that we crossed on the way up had melted out during the day. Wasn't a big deal, but definitely went to show just how hot it was up there, and kept us on our toes on the way out. We also had to fight crowds on the lower trail that headed for the Denny Creek slab (don't remember the exact name). That was a little frustrating on the way back to the car, but not unexpected on such a hot day. Hopefully will add some pictures soon.
