Don Goodman sent this report on the condition of the BigBeavercrossing to reach Access Creek & Luna Peak:
Mitch B., Natala and I attempted a quick trip into Luna last weekend. We
had great difficulty finding a crossing of BigBeaver. Eventually we did
find a crossing at a huge log jam well downstream from the mouth of
Access Creek. The jam is located opposite the "v" in "Beaver" on the
USGS 7.5 min sheet (approx. 25 min travel time downstream from where
Access Creek enters BigBeaver Creek). The swollen river was eating away
at the true left bank of the river at this point. In fact, just 15
minutes prior to finding this jam we heard a very loud crash. Upon
reaching the site of the jam we found a fresh 150' hemlock had just
fallen onto the mess, its root wad undermined by the swollen river.
Due to the delay in crossing the river, and various other circumstances,
we gave up our attempt on Luna.
