Good stuff. As I understand it the most successful band in history!!!

ABBA rules. I suspect many of the haters can be found on the 'what are you listening to' thread displaying their studied eclecticism while contratulating each other on their fine tastes that the great unwashed will never enjoy. Whatever.

I think they're also something like the all time biggest export out of Sweden. Amazing for a band that nobody likes.

Yep, I'm well acquainted with ABBA. And yes, I like them. It's pop that knows it's pop. Fun music that isn't trying to be anything other than light and enjoyable.
ABBA is sort of the Otter Pop of the music world. Otter Pops are good, they're tasty, cold, ephemeral treats. ABBA's music is the same. It's fun, easy to dance to, easy to listen to, and completely ephemeral.

The forum now officially has another poster as redundant as BPJ. Let's hope these two never meet and spawn. Yipes.

Well, if Abba didn't suck so badly, this would never have become an issue.

I think it would have happened eventually. ABBA was just the accelerent that made the arson burn the schoolhouse to the ground. I think we all saw the writing on the chalkboard.
Like BPJ says with guns, "ABBA doesn't kill people, people kill people.".
Never forget that.

HAHAHA! Wow, ABBA somehow draws attention. Did anybody see that documentary on PBS about ABBA touring the US? Loaded with fan interviews, some reactions were just over the top. I think ABBA, these days, seem to just remind most people what they were doing at the time.
Evolution of the Viking? This would look great demonstrated on a historic timeline.
Anyway, back in my rough and tumble days, I remember an incident where someone found an ABBA album (or 8-track) and played it at a party. Every mullet in the house knew every song. Played the whole thing, and by request even. Good times indeed. I think every band has it's place across the decades. I think we wound up "air guitaring" to the whole Xanadu soundtrack a few days later (unrelated to ABBA but, whatever). This was a welcome relief and an official response to seeing the 'grey and white corduroy' wearing chumps "air keyboarding" to Journey.
Confused and torn between ABBA, Journey, Rick James, and AC/DC air guitaring at high skool parties, I opted for parachute pants and started breakdancing. It is really hard to break to ABBA however.
