I was living/hiking and riding in the White Mountains in Arizona, off the grid during the years ABBA peaked so I'm becoming more familiar with them now that the PBS station has had them on for fundraising a few times.

guns don't watch your back... our dogs have shown us the way out when we were lost...AND kept us warm... for us its ALWAYS a two dog night!

AB - for someone that loves John Waters, I'm surprised you can't appreciate the camp value of Dancing Queen! lol.gif I remember listening to it while drinking beer on a speed boat on a warm, sunny day on Lake Mead. Good memories.

Can you hear the drums fernando? I remember long ago another starry night like this In the firelight fernando You were humming to yourself and softly strumming your guitar I could hear the distant drums And sounds of bugle calls were coming from afar

Ayyee chihuahua! Why are you kicking around a '70's band in 2007? If you want to be little music critics, then jump on something contemporary. In the '70's ABBA captivated the world, now it's cool to bash them because they don't sound like what's coming out today and their music is dated! DUH! You mean 30 years isn't supposed to make you sound dated? But then why is Mama Mia so popular? This does not compute! Fatal error!! System crash!!! rolleyes.gif

Methinks the ABBA dissers are overcompensating for a more horrific pop culture faux pas. hmmm.gif agree.gif lol.gif

Good stuff. As I understand it the most successful band in history!!!
I think they're also something like the all time biggest export out of Sweden. Amazing for a band that nobody likes. hmmm.gif
Can't forget Ace of Base, too.... hihi.gif

Oh yeah, it's pretty easy to forget Ace of Bass. Or Base. Whatever it is. I forgot them completely until mentioned, and still can't remember anything about them.

Actually, the idea is beginning to grow on me ... Invite some friends on a 3-day backpack, overdose them on ABBA for the entire 4-hr ride to the trailhead ( preferably repeat at least 1 cd ), then hit the trail with ears ringing. Could be pretty fun, provided one of them doesn't kill you in your sleep. If nausea sets in, vary it by singing the tunes Bob Dylan-style, perhaps pack a harmonica.... biggrin.gif

Evolution of the Viking? This would look great demonstrated on a historic timeline. Anyway, back in my rough and tumble days, I remember an incident where someone found an ABBA album (or 8-track) and played it at a party. Every mullet in the house knew every song. Played the whole thing, and by request even. Good times indeed.
Hell, Sid Vicious was a fan. I find it hard to "hate" ABBA. Not my favorite music by a longshot, but hell, one of the girls certainly did some sexy voice work for Adam Ant's "Strip" single. So I don't mind them at all.
