Came across some unusual blue mushrooms (Albatrellis flettii) near the confluence of Granite and Porcupine Creeks. The Burke Museum asked me for permission to use the photo for their on-line site. Blue mushrooms are uncommon with this species found in only a few scattered WA locales. The mushrooms that I saw are immature with the gills remaining unopened beneath. From what I understand the blue tint is transient turning to gray with aging and/or exposure to sunlight. https://biology.burke.washington.edu/herbarium/imagecollection/taxon.php?Taxon=Albatrellus%20flettii We may be hearing more about this species in the future as a recent study revealed three compounds that show potential treatment for pancreatic and colorectal cancers. https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0231948
