My first attempt of Mt. Aix failed a number of years ago and I was back to try again. This time I made it. I found the place I got lost during my rookie hiking year, and couldn't believe I actually got turned around there. Perhaps it's was the bridge less stream crossing, and the faint trail up to my left that suckered me in to nowhere. Not this time. I just walked across the small creek. doh.gif No problems on the way up. Small snow bank left just after you cross over Nelson ridge, not a problem. Great views and weather. I'll have to get back and try Bismark Peak.

Always fun to see where the trail has been rerouted to, or at least a more accurate representation of the trail. What did the GPS say for mileage and gain?

The GPS itself said 5.54 miles. When I input the data into Topo it measured 5.61 miles. 4334ft elevation gain. Forgot to wear my Alt watch. One wonders why they rerouted the trail.

Thanks for that. I thought if I ever went back I would hike up Bismarck, camp somewhere, hike the three miles off trail, go up Aix, and then down that trail. I believe the two trailheads are a hundred yards apart. Hard to find snow on the ridge after june though.

Thanks for the TR. agree.gif My wife and I will be at her family's cabin in the area for a week starting this weekend and we were thinking about hiking up both Aix and possibly Bismark (Bismarck?). Some of our other planned hikes are not to be due to road closures bawl.gif
