The trailhead (3750') is two miles beyond the White River entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park... 9 parking spots on the right side of the road... cross the road and hike 3.5 miles to Owyhigh Lakes (5200'). The trail is in perfect condition... nicely graded switchbacks with only a handful of snow patches remaining... no sign of any trail damage from last November's flooding. A quarter mile beyond the lakes you will find a large meadow (first good view of The Cowlitz Chimneys) with good boot-path leading up to a 6200' saddle between The Cowlitz Chimneys and Tamanos Mtn... from the saddle, turn north and continue on good boot-path to the false summit at 6790'. We stopped at the false summit; however, if you choose to continue to the slightly higher true summit, add another quarter mile of distance each way with a few minor ups and downs on fairly easy Class 3 terrain. Peak and Mountain views included Hood, Adams, Goat Rocks, Govenor's Ridge, Double Peak, Barrier Peak, The Cowlitz Chimneys, Little Tahoma, Rainier, Goat Island Mtn, Burroughs Mtn, Mt. Fremont, Dege Peak, Marcus Peak, The Palisades, Glacier, the Snoqualmie Pass Peaks, the Dutch Miller Peaks, and the Stuart Range... other than that, this hike doesn't offer much. 9 miles roundtrip, gaining 3000 feet of elevation... A great way to spend the 4th of July... kind of a shame we had to return to the neighborhood war zone. GPS route and pictures of the Tamanos Mtn hike. ..

"Teanaway 70" Peaks List... a guide to hiking and scrambling in the Teanaway Area. ----------------

Looks like a little R&R, R&R. bricks.gif Nice to see Denali Girl out there. She's usually a little more sensible than you guys are. I'm pretty sure I'll have to add at least the saddle to this summer's list. agree.gif Thanks.

Something lost behind the ranges. Lost and waiting for you....... Go and find it. Go!
