Another beautiful, short overnight trip that most people do as a dayhike. We were amazed how much snow has melted out this past week! At 5100ft. is a very nice, melted out campsite, with a patch of snow for a water source. We continued up to the ridge and found a scenic site on the snow to set up our Nallo 3. (running water close by).

Looking toward the false summit of Goat Mt. we could see the boot path, but also a few snow fields. It appeared that going straight up the fall line would be a reasonable choice if  need be. So after setting up camp  at around 5,500ft. we headed up the "trail" toward the summit. Quickly the trail crossed a very steep gully covered with rotten snow and water running below it. Definitely we would not continue on the trail. So we headed straight up on very steep terrain, angling right until the slope mellowed out a bit.  Now we were on the route we had chosen from below. We only had a few snow patches to cross, and eventually ran into trail again near what we would call the "middle summit", a great viewpoint of about 6,650ft.  We had fantastic views of Tomyhoi, Winchester, Sefrit, Baker and Shuksan to name a few! We felt no need to go further, and descended directly down the fall line. The grass was slippery in places, but not too bad.

When we reached the ridge we met two women and one man who were setting up bivies. They planned on going up on Sunday morning. Unfortunatley we awoke to high clouds.

Distance: 12-13 miles
Elevation Gain: 4200ft.

Is this the goat Mt. with the former lookout site w/ so-so trail that's a bit of a brush-bash?  If so, I was up there but never got the fine views you folks did.  Very cool.   up.gif

According to the book there was a lookout up there somewhere, but we didn't see it. No brush at all!

Toonces,

Sefrit is a gorgeous mountain....and the views from Goat are outstanding.  Of course Shuksan and Baker are close as is Sefrit.  But we could see Artist Point and Table Mountain and Herman.....to the Border Peaks and Winchester and Larabee....to the Pickets in the Distance and Ruth and Icey.  It was awesome. dizzy.gif  cool.gif
