Let's face it folks. Summer is over. It's been officially fall for a while, the leaves have changed, the larch have turned, the blueberries are gone and snow is going to be flying in the mountain. So how do you feel about what you did this summer?

Seems like I got a really late start on hiking this year, so wasn't able to hike as much as I'd hoped... reorg at work and a new job didn't help much rolleyes.gif But there is still some hiking to be done this fall, and there is always next year and an earlier start up.gif

Finally a poll with an option for me! up.gif I got out a lot this past summer, but I would have gotten out more if mom and dad didn't have jobs. Now that it's fall, I am looking forward getting out and about in the SNOW this winter. agree.gif

I count 55 hikes give or take since Jan 1st as of today (all but one solo). I hope to add one to that total tomorrow. Probably about what I expected. Certainly not epic but of the 55 hikes 22 were trails I had never hiked before. If not for all the after work quick/close in hikes up Tiger and such the new trail results would be favored even more. I more often than not did a new hike/destination on the weekends. I got out of the I-90 corridor this year a lot more including Highway 2/97 (4 hikes), the Olympics (4 hikes), Rainier (7 hikes - maybe 8 after tomorrow), and even 2 in the North Cascades, my first time hiking up there. I still haven't made it up to hike in the Mt. Baker area yet...

I had a really good summer agree.gif so far 66 days out on the trail since 1/1/09. The highlights include trips to the Grand Canyon, Mt. Hood area, and the Alps.

Oh yeah, I did fair better than iron. I did not do nearly enough due to family priorities. But I am glad with what was done. Mt. St Helen's or bust next year.

...wait...are we just going to hang here or go hiking?

I base it by my happiness. And of which, it was good.

You did not list my option, which is, I got out a whole lotta but it was not enougha. For awhile this summer/fall I was going on back-to-back backpack trips, coming home just to sort gear, wash clothes, and buy more food before hitting the trail again. Sadly, this appears to be coming to an end due mostly to weather constraints and short daylight hours. There are always dayhikes, I suppose, but they are not nearly as fun. I'm not mentally ready for winter. bawl.gif

.....leaving me wanting to return over and over in what ever capacity that may be, even if one day my knees are too old and I can only see the mountains from my porch. Jason Hummel

I guess I did a fair amount of hikes this summer wink.gif , but it's never really "enough". There's a ton more on my list that won't be accessible (or as enjoyable) 'til next summer. frown.gif So now that the weather has turned to crap & will stay this way for the next 9 mos., I'm headed south. cool.gif wave.gif hockeygrin.gif

I got out as often as I hoped, which according to plan is once a week (on average). But more than the quantity is the quality. Going up Si every week doesn't count. I did almost all new trips for me and the big ones with old and new friends were fantastic (Jumbo, Royal Basin, Daniel, Sherpa/Stuart, Gunn)

sarbar has a good point about happiness level. years ago i used to put all my eggs in the hiking/climbing basket. it was heaven or hell. with age came diversity. hiking,climbing,8 horses, 2 malamute dogs for skijoring even dirt bikes. in general playing outside always. money's tight so i keep it close to home, fortunately i can step right out my door and play. so it's all good.

hikes and climbs with malamute
