The one lucky thing is it never got too hot on this day and I made it through the relentless gully up to Headlee Pass without too much dehydration. The log crossing on the East Fork Sauk has become somewhat interesting since my last time up here with several new options available now with which to become creative - I chose an option that didnít involve a rope to climb up the opposite bank, even though it was available.

Headlee Pass is snow free and, for that matter, the entire hike was snow free all the way until the lower slabs on Vesper which were still covered. I hiked up the snow covered slabs for a ways, hopping from one rock-island to the next until I reached a point @6000 feet to where I thought having an ice axe handy might be a good idea. The summit was already getting socked in by clouds, so I turned around (having been up there a couple times already, I know what to expect) and headed back to a heather bench just below the slabs to hang out for a while before going down. After refilling water bottles at the Lake Elan outlet (dang good stuff) I made my way back to the car.

Another beautiful day in the mountains   biggrin.gif

My feet always hate me for doing this one, but you got me... Your pictures remind me of why I like it so much up there. Gotta go! Any particular issues with bugs (sounds like it might have been cool enough to keep them down)? Any pics of the creek crossing?

The bugs were nasty and I just noticed the welts on my shoulders this morning where they got through my synthetic shirt - I should have stuck with cotton  doh.gif

You are right about the feet complaining about never doing this one again, this is my third trip and each time I always said it would be my last (I guess I'll be up there again sooner than later). I'd also like to try Sperry at some point, maybe next season.........
