There's a week 2 missing, I know. A stomach virus put me down for five days, and making up time at work cause me to miss a number more. So we have here an old report for Gem Lake and one from Mount St. Helens yesterday.
Gem Lake 08-11-07
Busy trail, lots of dogs, and a heck of a lot of bugs. It was the only hike I was able to make after being sick, so I was worn out enough not to make my destination of Lower Wildcat with enough time to get back on schedule, so this was my turnaround point.

Mount St. Helens 08-18-07
I organized an alumni event through my college to hike up to MSH, and we had a full party of 12 for the weekend. A few people opted not to go all the way, and we took our time for the whole trip, but 8 of us made it to the top. The weather was crummy (cold (~35-40F the top 2000 feet or so), cloudy (couldn't always see the next post) and rainy at times) but the company and conversation were great. As an added bonus, the additional quiet and stillness provided by the dense cloud cover made the silence even more profound if you paused for a while on the rocks.
