This is actually three separate trip reports combined into one because they all intiated at the Phelps Creek trailhead and I am lazy. The first trip is an overnighter to Spider Meadow July 21-22. Weather was overcast and cool with a little rain. We saw an overturned truck on the way to the trailhead, fortunatley, no one appeared to be in it. The meadows were intensely green (especially for me being from Wenatchee, which is pretty brown by this time of year). There was some serious defoliation going on all the way to the meadow and in the meadow, which did not appear to be limited to a particular tree species. After setting up camp in the meadows we hiked up to Spider Gap. The next morning was a little wet, but made a great scene with mist drifting around the borders of the meadow and drops of water on the flowers. Although the meadows were very green, there were not as many flowers as I had hoped for, not sure if I was too early or too late, as there were species yet to bloom and those that had already finished, or if the flower display was not as spectacular as I had in my mind it should be? Second trip Mt Maude A week later I returned for Mt Maude in a day trip via Leroy Basin. I got a relatively early start considering the lengh of dirt road to get there. Upon reaching Leroy Basin the views begin in earnest and keep getting better the higher one goes. While I failed to follow the trail entirely, the way up Maude was not to difficult, and I enjoyed an hour plus lounging on the summit on a warm sunny day, a contrast to one week before. Pictures:

The last trip was August 12-13th to try and view the meteor showers. We packed our gear over the saddle just beyond Leroy Basin then set up camp. Form there we proceeded up Mt Maude. It had been cloudy almost all day, but on the decent the sun broke through. It continued to clear throughout the night and we were treated to a great display of meteors during the times we managed to stay awake. I awoke just before sunrise and was able to watch the sunrise on Glacier Peak and the surronding peaks. All in all a great trip. Note the number of people parked at the trailhead multiplied each trip, if this trend continues next weekend parking may be at Lake Wenatchee frown.gif Pictures:

I know what you mean about the parking. We went up on Aug 10, and by the time we exited on Aug. 12, three pages of trail register had been added after our th entrance. We might have passed you on our way down from Leroy Basin Sunday. There was a huge family party heading up including a woman of 73 (her grandson was carrying her gear.) cool.gif

Good stuff, I promised my daughter a trip to Spider Meadows and maybe Lyman Lake. Weekday will alleviate some of the traffic. up.gif

Such aweful and dreary looking terrain. Your pictures are so good though.

Yeah, we went to Spider Gap Tues-Wed and it was fairly lonesome.
