A haven for marmots indeed. In a short span I saw nine. With variable levels of plumpness; ducking and diving into their mountainside sanctuaries. Leaving the trailhead at 4pm permitted nothing less than non-stop hiking up the arm. I caught my breath while hiking up the longest switchback. Plenty of people in the parking lot and along the trail. Word about the repair seems to be spreading rapidly. That has been the hot topic in marblemount, along with the approach of Christmas. I determined that a good percentage of the cars were once filled with multi-day hikers, as there were plenty of cars in the lot upon returning from the hike as I laid in the back of my truck gazing at distant stars, planets and life forms. Plenty of apline aster west of the pass, and quite an extensive display of heather, lupine and bistort along the arm. Weather patterns were dynamic, and would not allow pure visibility of sahale any time before the sunset had faded, of course.Though, a once-socked-in el dorado, revealed itself concurrent to westerly colors. The wind bit. I shook hands with perhaps the start of glove season in the mountains. I enjoyed the trip. I took off my shoes, relaxed and took breaths of thanks then descended into the opaque forest.

Trevor's splendors upon Sahale Arm
Most splendid shots I have ever seen from there, mine included (of course). The shot with sun twinkling in the grass as it drops toward evening and a slash of cloud is certainly one of the finest shots I have EVER seen! But, I am prejudiced. Galen Rowell, bless his soul in Heaven and Art Wolf, eat your hearts out on this one, sublime shot!

Thanks, friends. Mostly grad filter use. The very dynamic ones I opted for using a blending technique, mainly because my grad-filter system is inadequate for such a large dynamic range, i.e, I would either be sacrificing shadows or highlights quite a bit while using one, plus their quality (filters) is deteriorating from so much use. Need to replace virtually my entire camera set-up.Every piece is basically on its last leg. I shouldn't be short of cash here in a couple months.

It's a work in progress. Less wind would have granted more floral detail in some of the shots, and the contrast could be better from lights to darks, but I still enjoy them.

Beautiful photos and TR. I especially liked your last line that includes the breaths of thanks. We are indeed fortunate to be surrounded by such beauty, are we not? Thanks for sharing, Trevor.

That first shot is awesome. I love the way the leaves get smaller and smaller heading down to the lake and yet they're still really crisp. A nice area.
