Today I headed up to Eagle Peak, one of the best views of Rainier from within the park. Didn't notice the trailhead until I turned around at some building in Longmire. Parked along the road, not sure if some parking spaces were washed away from The Flood? This trail is heavily wooded for most of the way. A constant elevation gain, but nothing too serious. We came across a deer with two young fawns. One was quite curious and came very close to us standing like statues on the trail. We stood motionless for 5 minutes or so and enjoyed their company. As soon as Mom stepped off the trail, we squeezed by. Wish the camera wasn't buried in the backpack...
After a quick lunch break at the saddle, we dropped the packs and headed up for an easy scramble to the top. Well worth the effort, the views were perfect. I even spotted Comet Falls in the distance. Surprisingly, only saw 2 other groups on the trail.
