Took a short hike up to a pretty lake off U.S. 2 on Wednesday. Went to the little pool just beyond it and caught six small trout in about 15 minutes (ultralight gear, catch and release only, barbs filed down).

Drove back and arrived home same time as the kids returning from school.
Had a wonderful dinner with my beautiful family at Bucca di Beppo. Then it was off to the nwhikers social. Had one of Yet's delicious brownies and met some very nice folks -- actually got to talk to some of them this time!
So all in all, a great birthday.
Except for the getting older part.
Forgot to mention that on the drive up, I picked up two folks hitching just outside Skykomish. They were thru-hikers on the PCT, just finishing up after starting at Mexico in April. Apparently there's a couple in Skykomish that take in PCT-ers for a night and deliver 'em back to Stevens for the rest of the trek. These youngsters had spent Tuesday night there and were hitching back up to resume the hike. Very impressive pack size -- as in no size at all. Don't these people eat?
Hope you had a fun birthday and nice trout pic. Looks like a stunted brookie, in which case you probably could have caught them all day and still not pulled enough of them out of the lake to help the remaining population grow larger.
