Why did you choose that approach as apposed to the Icicle?

Mark figured we needed maximum daylight time for the hike and the drive time was much shorter to come in from this TH. Didn't have to drive into Leavenworth and then all the way to the end of the Icicle. As it was, I was up at 4:20am and made it back home just before Midnight. We had about 45 minutes of headlamp usage near the end and just snuck in the doors of the Ixtapa in Sultan before they closed. The extra drive time would have meant even more hiking in the dark. Still good though!

It's true. I attempted Snowgrass in May in even worse conditions via icicle creek and refused to use that approach again. What a diva
Still haven't summited Snowgrass, but we got that pesky Ladies Peak knocked out, eh?

I like how the word Diva is beginning to encompass all sorts of activities.
Touron is a nougat of Arabic origin made with almonds and honey or sugar, without which it would just not be Christmas in Spain.

Now I feel better having been put to shame by ladies rather than humble snowgrass

Let me get your opinions... Id like to get into the Grace lakes. Which approach would you all suggest between the two?
Thanks.

Whitepine, definitely. We made it to the Grace Lakes trail in about 3 hrs, with a great view of Big Chiwaukum...

Thanks Markus. How's that WhitePine road up to the trailhead?

One of the better FS roads I've driven recently. I drive a Honda Element but even a smaller car should have no problem. tdd

Inconceivable! No wonder I didn't go. Nice work y'all. Hell of a day out there. |
We were looking over there from the summit of Axis and were thinking, "geez, look at all that snow! And all those clouds--glad we're not over there!" It was great to be able to hold off winter for one more week.
Impressive to do 22 miles in 12 hours in those conditions.

The road was only about 3 miles? long or so and in good condition. 20mph in my low ground clearance Vibe AWD. If you didn't worry about undercarriage and had a regular truck, 30mph would be easy.
Parking space at the TH for 10 rigs or so. No one was there when we arrived nor when we departed.

Yeah. It's a shame there were no ladies around to enjoy it.
On another random note, when I read the sentence above, my brain keeps trying to replace "out" with "up" for some reason.

Oh yeah, everyone forgot to mention when the wolves were howling, snarling and barking from far below us as we traversed the slope above Upper Florence Lake. They were probably devouring some poor elk or deer and were hoping we'd be distracted by their noise and plummet down the slope to them. Fortunately, no one panicked and we pressed on to the summit. (OK, maybe they weren't drooling wolves but there were at least 6 coyotes wailing quite a chorus.)howling "wolves"

I'm sorry I couldn't go.
I would have loved to have been there for your TNAB cherry popping, Yana.
